On that note, intellectual honesty requires me to specify that much of what is shown here was a one-off: being alone, time was obviously an issue and I was not able to do all of these things every other day, much as I would have liked to. However discussions which may plant seeds in people's minds have more impact, I believe, than simply 'doing for' people.
Spending two hours communicating on the action of doing, and underlying subject, has a more lasting impact than spending two hours doing silently. Which is also why I've chosen to be quite extensive in what I show here. Just trying to scatter some more seeds... |
Spaces, organisation, displays.(1)
// Makes such a big difference. Constantly trying to manage the incoming flow of things, and constantly reassessing the best way for people to experience the space(s). Explicit wording, designed.(3)
// Would have like that to be the case for all of it, but un-learning perfectionnism was of the essence. Budget for three years: two liquid chalk pens. Does coffee count? Examples, in use.(5)
// Showing what things are for, beyond sitting on a shelf waiting to be sold. Things I adopted, and sharing what I used them for; sharing what clients did, giving ideas just like that. |
Fixing, cleaning, upcycling.(2)
// Making things desirable in themselves. Obviously often not financially viable, but a few well-chosen examples give people ideas and make them see differently. Explicit wording.(4)
// Labels galore, with a voice. Words to say what's there, but also what's not. Displays, crafted.(6)
// Because artifice has its benefits. So many ideas of so many more things like this to do, but getting around to it was a rare priviledge. Still, a few happily squeezed in. |
